1.  Prayer Request

Prayer Request- TJ update

In talking to the cardiologist recently it appears that the plan for TJ's mitral valve is to wait until he is deemed stable enough for surgery and then go in -cracked sternum-open chest-open heart and replace the valve. The time line could get moved up considerably if for some reason his heart can no longer tolerate the level of leakage. The cardiologists are also somewhat vague on how they define "able to tolerate surgery." They have referenced "well along" in rehab, whatever that means (next week?)

Psalm 5 says:

1 Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my sighing.

2 Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray.

3 In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you
and wait in expectation.

With this attitude we would like to request a renewed 24 hour call to prayer to pray specifically and expectantly for the healing of TJ's mitral valve. God has done amazing and truly miraculous things in TJ's illness, but he is not finished yet. For the sake of your kingdom, your name, and by your grace we ask and wait expectantly, oh God!

2.   Vacation with a Purpose - repeat

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
My wife Debra and I wish to invite you to an evening of information and live testimonies about adult short-term mission trips to mainland China on Thursday Jan 10, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. at the Oakhurst Retreat and Conference Center, 120 Hill Street in Whitinsville, MA 01588 (exit 5 off Route 146 as it runs north and south between Worcester, MA and Providence RI) .

The evening last two hours. The trips last two weeks. They occur in May and August of each year and are all pre-arranged. Those that go range in age from 18-88 and raise their own support to do so. It costs $1,900 all inclusive. Once there, Amercians, like you and us, stay in a modest hotel and walk to a nearby college campus where they teach basic English to Chinese English majors for a few hours, then spend the day making friends and melting cultural barriers. The gospel of Christ inevitably gets shared face to face, with amazing results.

In addition, college grads from US schools all over the country are hired by the colleges to stay and teach for a semester or a year. These young teachers disciple the Chinese students,  providing support and continuity to the ministry. There are now 21 such teachers on 3 campuses and more are needed. One of the teachers will share with us on January 10.
For more info about thee trips go to www.ELTEdge.org. To rsvp to our event, call (508) 234-9160 or email John Rexford at jrexford@juno.com. We'd love to have you join us.

I heard Ves Sheely may even be there.
